= 1st Career Hat Trick for Zed!!

Well, what a night for Zed, the Caps and the fans!

Zed-head night, put together by DC101 started me off laughing in the morning, and had me cheering by the end of the day.  I woke up to the strains of "The Real Richard Zednik," a spoof sung to the tune of "The Real Slim Shady," mocking his suspension and just generally being completely hilarious!  All morning long hundreds of Zed fans had their hair bleached at the DC101 studios in preparation for the game against the Wings.  Those brave enough to bleach were given free tickets and a Zed jersey--not a bad deal!  Between the Zed-heads and all the Halloween costumes (saw a pair of women dressed as Pavel Bure and Anna Kournikova!), it was a festive evening from the start, and it only got better from there.

As per normal, there were tons of Wings fans in attendance, one of whom was parked right between me and my fellow season-ticket holders Linda and John.  She  actually was very nice, and VERY enthusiastic in her cheering, much to the dismay of other Caps fans in our section!

Amazingly enough, the Caps actually came to play, and the Wings, apparently did not.  This combination made for a great game for fans to watch, as evidenced by the final score.  The Wings were not hitting very much, and thus the Caps had tons of room with which to work.  The forechecking was tenacious, and the backchecking very effective.  Olie was called upon to make some good stops, but the victory was never really in danger.  Kono-Halpern-Dahlen were spectacular, but the best line of the night was Bondra-Niko-Zed.  Zednik finally got his first career hat trick, and all three goals were assisted by countryman and Slovakian hero Peter Bondra.  This just seems so appropriate to me, almost like a passing of the torch (I sure hope Zed can start scoring like the Peter of old!).  Peter's face just lit up everytime Zed scored, as though he had scored himself.  It was truly a beautiful thing to see.  Zed, well, hell, he was just fantastic, strong in every aspect of his game, and though he was the only Cap to take a penalty (that eventually resulted in a Wing goal), he certainly redeemed himself on the scoreboard.  I was very happy to witness in person my favorite player achieving this feat, and to have it happen during a decisive win over the only Western Conference team that Caps fans truly hate made it so much sweeter.  Way to go Zed!!!!
